ATCO Group has announced today (May 4) an agreement to provide Canadian Pacific (CP) with two hydrogen production and refuelling facilities in Alberta, Canada, to support the growing zero-emission locomotive sector.
The construction of the hydrogen facilities at CP’s Calgary and Edmonton railyards will advance the CP’s Hydrogen Locomotive Programme, which aims to build North America’s first line-haul hydrogen powered freight locomotive.
The infrastructure at each site is set to include a 1MW electrolyser, compression, storage, and dispensing unit. The Calgary electrolyser is intended to be powered by part renewable electricity from CP’s existing 5MW solar power facility at its headquarters.
